Ecumenical Patriarch expresses his disgrace for the attacks in Sri Lanka during Catholic Easter

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew expresses his deepest disgrace for today’s terrorist attacks, on the very day of Catholic Easter, in churches and hotels in the broader area of the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, causing the death of hundreds of innocent people and injuring many more.

Bartholomew strongly condemns any terrorist attack and act of hate, violence and fundamentalism, regardless of its source, and calls upon everyone to cooperate to build on the peaceful coexistence and collaboration through dialogue and mutual respect.

The Holy Great Church of Christ prays so that the souls of the victims shall rest in peace, expressing its deepest condolences for their families, and wishes all injured courage and a speedy recovery. At the same time, it conveys its sympathy and solidarity to the local Roman Catholic Church, Government and the people of Sri Lanka.

Ecumenical Patriarch contacted Metropolitan Constantine of Singapore and asked him to convey the above message by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the Roman Catholic Church, the Authorities and the people of the country.
