Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace on two-day visit to Mount Athos

Deputy Minister for Macedonia and Thrace Theodoros Karaoglou, who is also the chairperson of the Center for the Preservation of the Mount Athos Heritage (KEDAK), was on a two-day visit to Mount Athos. In this capacity, he inspected restoration and maintenance work on Mount Athos.

Theodoros Karaoglou visited five Mount Athos monasteries: Iviron, Great Lavra, Xenophontos, Docheiariou, Vatopedi. After being informed of the progress of the ongoing work, he noted: “The Ministry of Interior (Sector Macedonia and Thrace), through the KEDAK, carries high-quality work to protect and enhance the Mount Athos heritage, always with respect for tradition, taking into account its aesthetic and monumental value as well as its functional necessity. Thanks to our interventions the result of the synergy is visible to the visitor of Mount Athos as the historical character of the centuries-old Athonite buildings remains intact while integrating infrastructures necessary to practical aspects of the daily life of monks and pilgrims.”
