On May 4, the churches in Cyprus will be open, but only for individual prayer.

The faithful will have to wait until June 1 to be able to participate in the services, as the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, announced in his address last night.

“From May 4, faithful will be allowed to pray individually in churches, mosques and other places of worship, provided that no more than 10 people will be at the same place at the same time,” said Anastasiadis. The faithful will be able to attend the services from June 1, according to the instructions to be issued by the country’s Ministry of Health.

The Cypriot president also expressed his gratitude to the Archbishop of Cyprus “for the excellent cooperation and responsibility he demonstrates in managing such a sensitive issue.”

The good cooperation between the government and the Church is also evident from the recent statements of the Archbishop of Cyprus, who called on those who ask the president of Cyprus to open the churches not to meddle in the Church’s affairs.

The Archbishop of Cyprus called on the doctors, who in a letter had asked the president to immediately open the churches with measures, “to mind their own business,” noting that “there is no need to meddle in the church affairs.”

He reiterated that the Church had an excellent relationship and contact with the president and the government.
