One century has passed since the beginning of the final phase of the Genocide against the Greek Orthodox populations of the Ottoman Empire.

Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, in an interview with “Ethnos tis Kiriakis” newspaper sends a message for 100 years sad anniversary of the attrocity of the Young Turks.

“Our response to Genocide is the resurrection of the lives of our peoples and the progress of our homelands in order to have a strong future,” says the Supreme Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

In 2015, when the Armenian people honoured the Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia recognized the Genocide of the Greeks too.

As the Patriarch and Catholicos notes, “the attacks against Armenians, Greeks and other Christian populations of Turkey will not be cured until the world community recognizes the Genocide of 1915-1923 as one body.”

The Patriarch and Catholicos also states that “Greece, the Greek people, its rich culture and its values are not unknown to us. Often in our tours, in various parts of the world, we have had contacts with the Greek communities. The few days we spent in Crete enriched our view of the Greek people. We address our prayer to God in favour of Greece and its people, asking the Lord to preserve it in peace and progress, and we wish to continue to have a spirit of brotherhood between Armenia and Greece.
