The Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Bishop Klimis of Methoni, was elected by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, as new Metropolitan of Peristeri.

The Bishop of Methoni was elected by the Body of the Hierarchy with 68 votes, and became today the new Sepherd of the Metropolis of Peristeri.

The new Metropolitan of Peristeri, Klimis, was born in Aipeia, Kalamata, in 1954.

He studied at the School of Theology and at the Department of Neohellenic and Byzantine Philology of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

On August 15, 1982, he became a monk in the Monastery Sagmata.

He was ordained Deacon on August 23, 1982 and Elder on May 1, 1985 by Ieronymos, then Metropolitan of Thebes and Livadia, while on the same day he received the officio of the Archimandrite.

He served as Preacher at the Metropolis of Thebes and Livadia (1982-1999). In 1999 he was transferred to the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and appointed Chief Priest of the Holy Temple of Prophet Elias of Pagrati, contributing substantially to the erection of the Parish Cultural Center.

At the same time, he was appointed Secretary of the Synodal Committee for Ecclesiastical Education and Special Synodal Committees of Christian Monuments and Cultural Identity of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, as second Secretary – Minutes Recorder (2008-2011) and first Secretary – Minutes Recorder (2011-2014) of the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.

On October 10, 2014, he was appointed Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and subsequently was elected at the suggestion of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, as Assistant Bishop of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.

On Oct. 13, 2014, he was ordained Bishop of the Church of Prophet Elias in Pagrati, by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.
