Bishop Christoforos of Andide of the Metropolis of Toronto has passed away

The Bishop of Andide, Christoforos Rakintzakis, died at dawn today at the age of 89. The late hierarch was an assistant bishop of the Metropolis of Toronto in Canada since 1999.

His body will be at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Theotokos in Livadia from tomorrow morning, Saturday, February 15, where the Divine Liturgy will take place.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 of the same day.

His burial will then take place at St. Luke’s Monastery, where he was tonsured a monk.

Bishop Christoforos of Andide was born in Athens in 1931.

He studied at the Theological School of the University of Athens, the Faculty of Philosophy of the same University and at the Secondary Education School. He completed his postgraduate studies in the UK at the Institute of Education, London University, and Birmingham University.

He was ordained Archimandrite in 1986, and has since participated in missions in South Korea and Hong Kong.

For several years he was director of the Toronto Orthodox Academy of Theology and an education consultant at the Consulate General of Greece in Toronto. In 1999 he was elected auxiliary bishop of the Metropolis of Toronto.
