Bishop Agathangelos of Fanari was appointed Titular Metropolitan

Bishop Agathangelos of Fanari was appointed Titular Metropolitan today, Thursday, June 27.

According to information, this decision has been taken unanimously by the members of the Standing Holy Synod.

Vassilios Haramantidis was born in Halki in the Dodecanese in 1961. He was ordained deacon in 1983 and presbyterian in 1988 by Metropolitan Ieronymos of Thebes. He studied theology at the School of Theology in Athens and attended postgraduate studies at the School of Theology in Thessaloniki.

He served as a priest in the Metropolis of Thebes. In 2001 he was appointed Director of the Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece. On January 9, 2003, he was elected with 57 votes as Titular Bishop of Fanari while his fellow candidates, Archimandrite Kirilos Misiakoulis received 2 votes and Dionysios Mandalos received 1 vote and 13 blank ballots.

On January 13, 2003, he was ordained Titular Bishop of Fanari, Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese of Athens.
