Believers of all Christian confessions prayed for unity in Corfu

In the framework of the Week of Thought and Prayer for the Unity of the Churches, a unique event was held yesterday at the Metropolitan Catholic Church in Corfu at the initiative of the Catholic Archdiocese and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Corfu, Zante and Cefalonia, Ioannis Spiteris. Many representatives of different Christian doctrines gathered at the Church and attended the event.

The central theme of the speeches was: “The Bible, the Word of God; push for Christian unity”. Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands welcomed in a letter the event. “In a period of insecurity, confusion and ‘bad desires’ it is important for our souls to crave the presence of God so that we can have sound principles by which we can have hope and a meaningful life,” he said in his letter.

“Despite their differences, Christians should be inspired by the Bible as a whole and not just by a few individual passages. The Holy Spirit unites. It does not divide. The devil is the one who divides. I wish all of us, even if we are still far from resolving our dogmatic differences, not to forget the words of the Apostle Paul to the Ephesians: “For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united us into one people,” said the Roman Catholic Archbishop, Ioannis Spiteris, in his brief address.
