The Holy Community of Mount Athos sent a letter to Minister of Justice Michael Kalogirou and MPs regarding the revision of the Penal Code.
The Holy Community expresses its grief for the planned changes to the Penal Code, which, as it points out, will have serious negative impact on the society and the relations of the people.
“The history and the Orthodox tradition of our nation demand the human corpse should be respected, even if it is the corpse of the enemies of the homeland,” says the Holy Community in its letter.
“It is really their purpose of the revision that everyone can curse at God and the Church, verbally outrage the dead, and act improperly toward a grave without running risk of penalties being imposed? Is there an ongoing effort to abolish the values of the Orthodox Greeks?” it is emphasized in the letter.
“By addressing all of you, we underline that there is an urgent need to preserve, with all the powers we can, the Orthodox tradition of our country at this time,” the Athonite Community says.
