Archbishop on Pontian Genocide: It is our duty to remember the victims, and pray for them

In the presence of the Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, a remembrance service took place on Sunday, May 19, on the 100th anniversary of the Great Tragedy of Pontic Greek Community.

The event titled “Pontus: Crucifixion and Memory” was organized in Herodion by the Pontic Asssociation of Athens in honor of the victims of the Pontic Genocide.

Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia, the Regional Governor of Attica Rena Dourou, party leaders, ministers and politicians also attended the event while the Archbishop was accompanied by Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese Bishop Symeon of Thespies.

Shortly before the opening of the event, the Archbishop stated to the 89.5 radio station that he wanted so much to attend this commemoration event of the Great Catastrophe of Greek community and our fellow human beings. “It is our duty to remember them, pray for them, and to pay very careful attention to our future,” the Archbishop stressed.
