Archbishop of Canada prays for the tragic incident in Nova Scotia

Archbishop Sotirios of Toronto

Archbishop Sotirios of Canada expresses his sorrow for the murder of 18 people in Nova Scotia.

As he points out in his announcement, Archbishop Sotirios, together with the entire plenitude of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, mourns the tragic and senseless loss of life that took place in Nova Scotia yesterday.

The incident claimed the life of 18 people, including RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year veteran of the police force.

The Archdiocese grieves with all of those affected by this act of unspeakable violence and prays for the repose of the souls of all the victims that they may be in the bosom of the Resurrected Lord.

Following the sad news, Archbishop Sotirios conducted a short prayer service in his private chapel dedicated to the Life-Giving Font, for all of the victims, as well as for the perpetrator of the worst shooting in Canadian history to be forgiven.

“As Orthodox Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, may the knowledge of eternal life provide hope and comfort to the affected families and friends during this most difficult time,” the archbishop said in his message.
