Archbishop of Australia: Clergy and people we are moving forward united

Archbishop Makarios of Australia sends a message of unity and determination for the future of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

In particular, he stated to cnn.greece: “The Holy Archdiocese of Australia has a glorious past. But no one can stop us from having a glorious future. We look at Christ and move forward. Clergy and people, we are moving forward united with zeal, love and enthusiasm in order to give a thorough witness in Australia; The witness of our faith in favour of our homeland.”

The message from the Archbishop of Australia comes at a time when reactions to news reports regarding the purchase of the Archdiocese’s property by the non-profit Consolidated Trust are increasing.

It is recalled that a few days ago the Archdiocese of Australia issued an explanatory statement regarding the publications circulated on digital media mainly in relation to the purchase of a property by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Consolidated Trust in Sydney, where the headquarters of the Archdiocese are situated.

As pointed out, “Certain persons, lacking both competency and any legal responsibility, are stirring up the issue relating to the purchase of the property in question, by publishing letters and promoting media articles, with a view to harming the good reputation of the Archdiocese and Archbishop Makarios.”

He added, “The Archdiocese, responsibly and officially, declares that the Consolidated Trust is represented only by its members. Statements relating to the actions of the Consolidated Trust originating from any other source cannot be considered objective or reliable and are disseminated in order to serve other self-seeking interests.”
