Archbishop of Athens: European solidarity is in danger of collapsing at the Evros border

After his visit to Evros, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece expressed the belief that European solidarity was at risk of collapsing at the Evros border, following the latest developments and the worsening situation in the region.

As Archbishop Ieronymos pointed out, “The deficit of European refugee policy and the general policy of the European Union on the refugee problem have used as deadly weapons by the Turkish President.

He underlined, “It is not possible for Turkey, which essentially declares Greece an asymmetric war, to ‘negotiate’ with the EU and, why not ask for a ‘sale of indulgence’!

He pointed out that “it is time for the global community to take active action, effective initiatives and immediate measures to tackle the refugee and migrant problem. Before it’s too late for humanity itself.”
