Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania was targeted by Albanian nationalists.
In a resolution, the organization, called “Children of Labëria,” refers to demands which, among other things, includes the removal of all Greek monuments from the territory of Albania, such as graves of Greek soldiers, memorial columns, as well as the declaration of Archbishop Anastasios as persona non grata.
According to the resolution/announcement by the nationalist organization, “we request that Anastasios Giannoulatos, the secular name of Archbishop of Albania, must be stripped of Albanian citizenship and be declared persona non grata.”
The reason, according to the resolution as reported by tachydromos.org, is that “it has turned Orthodox Albanian churches into churches of a different nature and has secretly intervened in the internal affairs of the Albanian State.
They also demand that the Consul General of Greece in Gjirokastra must be expelled and be declared person non grata.
