The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, visited today Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.

The Archbishop welcomed the President and referred to the close relations of the two countries. At the same time, Mr. Vucic thanked the Primate of the Greek Church and stressed that his country may be a small country, but it will always be on the side of the Greeks.

The Archbishop expressed his pleasure that the President during his visit to Greece also visited the “Church of Greece, founded by the Apostle Paul, the teacher of the Gospel of Christ” and welcomed him “to the birthplace of classical wisdom and at the fortress of the Christian spirit, whose foundations were laid by the apostolic activity of Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, a disciple of the Apostle Paul.” He also talked about the relations and commonalities of the two countries.

In addition, he conveyed heartfelt greetings and wishes to the Serbian people, with whom, as the Archbishop said, we have been consistent with each other through the centuries, linked by unbreakable historical and brotherly ties.

He further pointed out that “both countries have suffered many times from invasion and have endured the cross of suffering, sorrow and injustice. Nevertheless, we must not lose hope.” He also noted that “the two peoples are characterized by their sincere love for right and good, and self-sacrifice when needed.”

The President thanked the Archbishop, stressing that it was a special honour for him and for the Serbian government ministers to be in Greece and noted that he had much to learn from the Apostle Paul, while wishing success and health.
