Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece met New Democracy MP Maximos Charakopoulos at the seat of the Archdiocese of Athens. One of the topics discussed was the demographic problem.

In his statements, Maximos Charakopoulos was grateful for this meeting and gave to the Archbishop the finding of the Inter-party Parliamentary Committee on Demographic Issue.

“Unfortunately, the demographic issue is a huge problem that not only affects Greece, but the entire Christian world, which we once called Christian Europe, because it is primarily about the crisis that the traditional family is going through. It is a serious national problem,” said Maximos Charakopoulos.

He also thanked the Archbishop and the Church for the understanding and the work offered by supporting the institution of family and “undertaking specific programs and actions in particularly sensitive border areas such as Thrace for many years”.

On his part, the Archbishop stressed that the demographic issue afflicts our homeland and many other countries, underlining that “the cause, highlighted by many organizations and by the Church in particular, is the crisis of the institution of family and the undermining of Christian values and the teachings of the Church. It is a problem that will hardly be tackled.” He added that the serious cause of the problem is the financial frailty to support young people and have children.

Then the Archbishop met SYRIZA MP Georgia Gennia, and then the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed Majed Alali.
