Andros celebrates Panagia Theoskepasti

On Saturday morning, Metropolitan Dorotheos II (Polikandriotis) of Syros performed the liturgy at the Church of Panagia Theoskepasti in Andros island.

There followed the litany of the Holy Icon, surrounded by the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Corinth, the Music Association of Andros, guard of the Military Base of Ammolohos, and the frigate “Kountouriotis”.

In his speech, Dorotheos II mentioned, among others, that even today, our world suffers ecological disasters and wars, and innocent children lose their lives to deadly hunger and bombardments.

“The Icon of Virgin Mary urges all of us to contemplate and undertake responsibility. We have no right to claim that we are powerless because we are all accountable to History itself”, he argued.

At the end of his speech, Dorotheos said that Andros has been the center of Greek shipping and praised the island’s ship-owners for their timely contribution to their homeland and national economy, because, in defiance of the times, they continue to “build” ships that hold the Greek flag high.
