Metropolitan Eusebius of Samos and Ikaria sets alarm bells ringing on the demographic. As he mentioned in a statement after the visit of the Large Families Association to the Metropolis, the demographic problem is an existential issue for Greece.
“The population of our islands is under persecution. The situation is tragic,” he noted.
Metropolitan Eusebius said that the villages will gradually resemble nursing homes, emphasizing that the priests “are performing only funerals and memorials. The Mysteries of Marriage and Baptism have been forgotten.”
Regarding the prospect of giving citizenship to foreigners in order to increase the population of Greece, Metropolitan of Samos stated, “Is Greece going to live without Greeks? Alas if we become a minority in our own country.”
“I’m worried as a Greek and a orderer. The local Church supports both the large and the new families of our islands,” he said.
